Although Dr. Ehlert generally avoids terms that she considers to be “media inventions”, the combining of several injectables (fillers and Botox) has been described by some as a “liquid facelift”. In a similar vein, the combination of the volumizing filler Radiesse® and skin tightening using Thermage® provides what can be called an alternative “facelift”.
Radiesse is used to:
- Restore the cheekbones
- Add volume to a depleted face
- Lift the skin along the jawline and on the cheeks
- Fill facial hollows
Thermage, performed either before or soon after treatment with Radiesse, can further firm, elevate and fill out skin that has become thin and lax.
Patients actually inspired the term Alernative “Facelift”, as the most frequent comment after these two treatments has been “I look like I had a little lift!” followed closely by “I look like I did (5,8,10) years ago!”
Although a surgical facelift may be required to correct significant skin sagging, surgery does nothing to improve the loss of volume in the face that occurs at the same time. So, even if surgery would be helpful, some form of filler will likely still be needed to restore lost volume to the face and Thermage may serve to improve and maintain the results of surgery.
If you can’t or don’t want to have surgery, the alternative “facelift” may be just what you’re looking for.
*Please be aware that the use of fillers for volume replacement is a common practice but is considered an “off-label” use of these products.
